One Hand Clapping was published by Viking Penguin (UK) and Uitgeverij Arbeiderspers (Netherlands), and nominated for that year's Orange Prize for Fiction.
It was subsequently required reading for two university English literature courses in the UK, along with Franz Kafka's Metamorphasis.
